Welcome to my favorite part of Phil’sFreshFoods.com – my online, personal journal of everything that is happening behind the scenes in (and out of) my kitchen. Enjoy!

The Garden in August posted: 8-30-2008
The garden has been incredible this year. We have had a steady supply of beans, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, carrots, greens, onions, etc... I am getting ready to clear out some of the more tired squash plants and replace them with my favorite fall vegetables - fava beans, kale, lettuces, bok choi, carrots, radishes, swiss chard, and tons of peas.

The purple and yellow beans were delicious and tender

The tomatillos are coming in strong.

For the first time, I am succeeding at growing a variety of melons. They're still pretty small. I hope they grow big enough to eat.

The greens from the bean plants get thrown on the compost pile for rotting and recycling.
